11.03.2018 Durch den Fluss Mzamba von notwendiger Infrastruktur wie Schulen, Gesundheitsvorsorge, Arbeit, Lebensmittel-Geschäften und von der wolhabenderen Region KwaZulu Natal getrennt, beginnt das Pondoland und die Region Eastern Cape. Der Weg dorthin führt über eine steile Schlucht und über die mzamba-bridge, vor dem Bau der Brücke durch den reißenden Fluss. Zwei unserer „locals“, Taxi und Lonwabo Dlamini, und Nonhle Mbuthuma, eine Aktivistin und Schlüsselperson der Community, nehmen uns mit in die unendlichen Weiten „der anderen Flussseite“. Im Vergleich zu Mzamba wohnt man hier in vorwiegend runden Hütten („Rondavels“) mit Strohdächern. Es gibt kein fließendes Wasser und keinen Strom, manchmal ein Solar-Paneel auf dem Dach. Die Hütten sind in kleinen Gruppen der Familienclans angeordnet, rundherum unendliche Weite und mehrere Kilometer Wanderung bis zur nächsten Häusergruppe. Eine ungewohnte, unvergessliche Erfahrung! // Separated from the necessary infrastructure such as schools, health care, labor, grocery stores and the more prosperous region of KwaZulu Natal, through the Mzamba River, the Pondoland and the Eastern Cape begins. The path leads over a steep gorge and over the mzamba bridge, before the bridge was built by walking through the raging river. Two of our locals, Taxi and Lonwabo Dlamini, and Nonhle Mbuthuma, an activist and key player in the community, take us into the vast expanses of „the other side of the river“. Compared to Mzamba you live here in mainly round huts (“Rondavels”) with thatched roofs. There is no running water and no electricity, sometimes a solar panel on the roof. The huts are arranged in small groups of the family clans, around infinite width and several kilometers hike to the next group of houses. An unfamiliar, unforgettable experience!
